Fetal Development Month by Month: Month 1

After conception, your fertilized egg travels down one of your fallopian tubes toward your uterus and attaches itself to your uterine wall. Your baby's cells are rapidly dividing and growing and the brain, spinal cord, and heart are beginning to develop. At the end of the first month, your baby is 1/2 inch long - 10,000 times larger than it was at conception! The placenta also begins to form during this first month of fetal development and will nourish your baby throughout your pregnancy.

This month you will miss your period, your breasts might be swollen or tender, and hormones are surging through your body, preparing you for the coming months. During days 10 to 14 you may notice some spotting, but this should only last one day.
